What the Greenlist Means

The New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) maintains a Greenlist of virtual currencies that NY-regulated entities may custody and/or list without separate approval. This status helps providers add assets more quickly, but it doesn’t guarantee that a specific exchange or app will offer that asset to New York consumers. Platform coverage can still vary.

TL;DR: Greenlist = pre-approved for NYDFS-regulated entities to handle. It’s not investment advice, and it doesn’t force any platform to list the asset. Always verify availability on your chosen provider.

FAQ

Is every Greenlisted coin available to me in New York? Not automatically. Providers decide which assets to offer. Greenlist status allows them to list/custody without separate approval, but it’s not a requirement.

What if an asset isn’t on the Greenlist? Providers can still apply for approval, or may handle it under different conditions. Check with your platform.
